Health & Safety Policy
SEN Families Unite CIC is committed to providing safe and healthy environments for the children, families and individuals who access our activities and services.
Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety sits with the committee of SEN Families Unite CIC. Everyone taking part in our activities — including volunteers, staff and participants — is expected to take reasonable care for their own safety and the safety of others, and to report anything that looks unsafe.
Risk assessments
Risk assessments are undertaken where appropriate when services or activities take place in physical environments. We consider the venue, the activity, the number of people attending and any specific needs of participants, and we put sensible control measures in place before the activity goes ahead.
Safe meeting and activity environments
- Checking that venues are suitable, accessible and appropriately maintained
- Ensuring exits, walkways and quiet or low-stimulus spaces are considered when planning
- Making sure activities are supervised by an appropriate number of adults
- Considering sensory needs so environments are safe and comfortable for SEND participants
Hazard identification
Anyone who notices a hazard should report it straight away so it can be removed or managed. Where a hazard cannot be resolved safely, the activity will be adjusted, moved or postponed.
Accident and incident recording
Accidents, injuries and near misses are recorded accurately, including what happened, when, who was involved and what action was taken. Records are reviewed so we can learn from them and reduce the chance of a repeat.
Emergency procedures
Where necessary, appropriate medical or emergency assistance will be sought without delay. Those leading an activity should know how to summon help, where the exits are and how to account for everyone present. Emergency contact details are collected where relevant and stored securely.
Policy review
This policy is reviewed periodically and updated when our practice, our services or the relevant law changes. Review and approval details are recorded internally by SEN Families Unite CIC and can be requested by emailing us.
